Who is Iraqis politician Muqtada al-Sadr?

Muqtada al-Sadr is an Iraqi politician and militia leader. Al-Sadr who is leader of Sadrist Movement and Peace Companies was born on 4th August,1974.

He is the fourth son of another famous Iraqi Shi’a cleric. His father is  the late Grand Ayatollah Mohammad M. Sadeq al-Sadr.

Muqtada al-Sadr, the influential politicians had led the American Military presence in Iraq by name “Mahdi Army.”

Al-Sadr joined the Sadrist political party to the Saairun alliance.

Muqtada al-Sadr’s political party won the highest number of seats in the 2018 and 2021 Iraqis parliamentary elections. His party had 73 seats out of the 329 seats of the parliament.

Muqtada al-Sadr is rumored to have ask for the assassination of Abdul-Majid al-Khoei, a claim he has denied.

The influential politician, whose supporters had taken over parliament and tried taking over the Presidency belongs to the prominent Sadr family. The  Sadr family hails from Jamal Amel in Lebanon.  The family originally Lebanon later settled at Najaf.

Why is Muqdata al-Sadr resigning from politics?

Muqtada al-Sadr is said to have warned both Iran and the United States not to interfere in Iraqis conflict.

Sadr’s 73 MPs on the al-Sadr’s bloc resigned from parliament. This was in the middle of the 2022 Iraqi political crisis.

Today August 29, 2022, Muqtada al-Sadr announced his retirement from Iraq politics.

He said “decided not to interfere in political affairs, so now I announce my final retirement and the closure of all institutions except for the Holy Shrine, the Noble Museum and the Al-Turath Authority”.

He has equally closed  most of his offices and institutions. His resignation according to him is due to corruption in the country and that Iraq politicians are corrupt.
