Graphic Online sources say the “90-year-old chief died on the dawn of Saturday, February 4, 2023 at his palace in Damongo in the Savanna Region”.

Their report say, the family of the late chief are preparing to officially announce the death in line with custom and tradition.

The graphic sources say the late Yagbonwura has been unwell for time now.

His death is said to have followed swiftly following  the death of the Lepowura, Alhaji M.N.D. Jawula, who died in the United States.

The Yagbonwura was installed/ enskinned as Yagbonwura in March, 2010.

Before ascending to the highest throne, he was  the Paramount Chief of the Kusawgu Traditional Area of Gonja.  He rule under the skin name  of Kusawguwura Sulemana Jakpa.

The late chief was the son of “Yapeiwura Bakari, the son of Yagbonwura Mahama of Kusawgu and Mma Nyenbali Chiraba”.

Graphic sources say, the Registrar of the Savanna Regional House of Chiefs, Abutu Kapori told them  that they are on the process of performing the  necessary rites, which will pave way for his burial.

“The entire Gonja Kingdom is mourning because a great leader has fallen, currently all the Paramount, divisional and sub-chiefs are trooping the palace for the necessary rites as custom demands,” the registrar added

Mr Kapori  further indicated that the body would be conveyed to Nyange, the traditional capital of the kingdom for performance of some rituals before transporting it to Mankuma, royal cemetery for interment.
