Who was Martin McDonnell?

He was a 19 year old man from Longford. He got injured as he walk around the Convent Road area of Midlands township.

This happened around 6pm and the 19 year old lost his life in the process. Martin McDonnell lost his brother last year through road crash and it is pathetic that he left the world through this same road crash.

Tributes have been pouring in for McDonnell especial the way he died.

One of them wrote on social media:”It really is a cruel world we live in,” wrote one friend. “RIP Martin, your back with your brother Ciaran this evening side by side again.”

Another also wrote: “Gone too soon brother, you’ll be missed. Praying for your family at this sad time.”

Cllr Gery Hagan , who is the Longford Municipal District Cathaoirleach also paid tribute to him writing: “It’s a tragedy at any time of the year, but especially so with it being Easter week,” he said.

“On behalf of the Longford community I would like to take this opportunity to extend deepest sympathies to the family of the young man.”

Who was Martin McDonnell who last year via road crash?

His brother by name Ciaran  McDonnell also died last year through road crash. His brother was 23 years old at the time.

Martin’s brother  died on New Year last year after his car submerged in water. This occurred between Granard and Ballinalee.

It is tragic that this family lost two members of theirs through only road crashes.

Martin McDonnell who spoke at his elder brother’s funeral said:

“You are my hero and I will always love you. You were simply the best. You will be missed and you will always be in our hearts.”

He added that:“I don’t even know where to start,” he told mourners. Our hearts are broken into pieces. You were one of a kind and you were my best friend.”
