Declan 'Doc' O'Connell

Declan ‘Doc’ O’Connell death will be discussed in this post. We will tell you how the Irish Soldier perished in Spain.

Who was Declan ‘Doc’ O’Connell?

He was an Irish soldier who went to Spain to partake in a skydiving competition.He was in his early 50s.

Declan “Doc” O’Connell had his education at the Patrician Brothers school.

The late Sergeant Declan is said to have joined the army for the last 30 years ago.

He has been described as an athlete fellow and had played  football for Newbridge Sarsfields.

Declan ‘Doc” O’Connell also played football for Newbridge Town.

The late soldier had interest in skydiving. His career in skydiving dates back in 2004.

He traveled the world pursing his interest in skydiving. He has been to places like Russia and Spain to undertake skydiving.

He is said to have been part of the first Irish group that made it to the podium during the  World Indoor Sky Dive Championship in 2016.

Declan “Doc” O’Connell won gold during that championship.

He reportedly told the  KildareLive at the time that: “Winning gold was a tremendous feeling.”

He has over  200 jumps under his belt back in 2016.

Tributes pour in for Declan ‘Doc’ O’Connell.

Mark Keane,who is the President of the Permanent Defence Forces Representative Association paid tribute to Declan O’Connell saying: “It’s a very tragic day and all of our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

“He was a very accomplished soldier and a staunch supporter of PDFORRA. So it’s very sad news for all our members.”

The Kildare Cllr Anne Connolly who spoke to the Irish Mirror said: “I offer my sincere sympathies to Doc’s family and his colleagues.

“And I’m sure the Curragh camp will be a very sad place on Monday morning when members are turning up for work. It’s just very sad news.”

She further added: “The Defence Forces is an integral part of the community in Newbridge.

“And regardless of whether people knew him or not, his loss will be felt throughout the community.”

The Kildare District Darts League also issued a statement in his honor.Their statement said: “The committee would like to pass on its condolences to the family and friends of Declan O’Connell of Flanagans darts team, who tragically passed away today.

“Doc has been a KDDL member for over a decade, and won the league in 2017 and last season with Flanagans.

“Our thoughts are with Doc, his family and friends and all at Flanagans Darts Team. R.I.P Doc.”
