Who was Colie Kearney?
He was a young man who only turned 20 in last November.
He attended Gort Community school. He equally played in what has been described as underage hurling with the local Kilbeacanty club.
His interest in farming, far exceeded any other.
He was the son of his father Francis Kearney and his mother Maura Kearney.

Colie Kearney also left behind his two siblings. His siblings are Naill Kearney and Shane Kearney.
Naill is his elder brother, who is 22 years while Shane is his younger brother of 15 years.
He has an uncle by name Pat Kearney. His uncle is a former chairman of Galway GAA.
Mr Pat Kearney spoke about, whom Colie was: Indicating that
“He was a very popular young man. He worked on many of the farms in the area for various contractors. He loved farming, was a great worker.
“He was up at six o’clock yesterday morning milking cows and then went off before ten o’clock to feed other livestock in a slatted shed a mile or two away. It’s something he had done hundreds of times but this time something happened and he lost his life. People are numb with the news.”
His neighbours are said to be thronging his family home in their bid to comfort them,especially his parents.
He celebrated Christmas and was poised for success in this young year of 2023.
He was from Ballyturn in Gort and died tragically in a farm accident.
How did Colie Kearney death happened?
The accident that claimed his life is said to have occurred when he was feeding cattle on Monday morning.
It had to do with a him working with a tractor.
His father first raised the issue after he failed to contact his son after, he left to feed the cattle in a farm which is a mile away.
Colie Kearney funeral?
His funeral is slated for Friday at 1pm. Colie Kearney funeral will be preceded by his reposition at the St. Columba’s church in Kilbeacanty.
The reposition will be between 4pm to 7pm in the evening.
The burial will take place in Rakerin Cementry.
Colie Kearney farm accident is a second in less than six months.
Colie’s unfortunate accident is a second in a row in a space of six months.
The first of such farm accident was John Hansberry, who accident happened in July.
He had retired from the Galway County Council, before dying in that accident on his farm which is at Dereen.
