Damian Browne will be our focus. We will look at his motivation for embarking upon this journey.

Who is Damian Browne?

He is an Irishman and a former Leinster  resident.

Browne is also a former pro rugby player.

He is the first Irishman to have ever row all the way from New York to Galway.

He made the journey with a vessel  by name Cushlamachree.

The man who spent 112 days on sea left Manhattan in June in what was a world record journey.

The journey is a fundraising venture to support four charitable organizations namely : National Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation, Ability West, Madra and The Galway Simon Community.

Who is Jane Given? Ex-wife of football star Shay given, who is in court with her another ex.

He is said to have set foot on soil on Tuesday morning before 1 am.

The weather made it impossible for him to make it to the Galway port, but the man and his vessel made to the Furbo Beach.

Gardai and emergency service provide came to meet Damian Browne at the beach.

He was welcome by Gardai and first responders.  This was after Damian  called project Empower land support officer, Chris Martin and he in turn alerted the right officials who made it to the beach.cer, who in turn contacted the relevant emergency services who rushed to the beach.

Those who came to the beach first were “Garda Micheál Ó Ráinne from An Spidéil, Garda Vincent Kelly from Indreabhán and Garda Eoin O’Malley from Carna”. They found the vessel on the rocks and helped Damian to safety.

Damian who has since re-united with his family, together with the The Project Empower  team are so grateful to Gardai and the relevant emergency providers.
