Reed career spanned after his playing life. Yes, after retirement from playing life, he went into coaching.

He worked as an Assistant coach and graduated to head coach. He did this with many teams and it spanned for more than 10 years.

Reed was further promoted to the status of general manager. That is not all, the late 80 year old also became the Vice President of the Basketball operation.

He held this position from 1989 all through to 1996.

Reed held this position with the New Jersey Nets.

His contribution to the club as general manager is that, Reed lead his team to their NBA finals in two consecutive years of 2002 and 2003.

The famous sports personality was the only child of his parents. His parents were Willis Sr and Inell Reed.

Reed had his education at the South which was seen to be segregated at the time. His choice for his career path seem to have began so early for him.
