While Botech is closed down indefinitely over students riot, Students of Bawku Secondary Technical Institute have also protested over what they say is the poor quality and quantity of food that is served them in the school.
The incident happened on Tuesday morning as the students gathered in their numbers to protest over what they called , failure on the part of school authorities to enhance sporting activities in the school.
The students also indicated that they have been subjected to ill treatment by their teachers and so the rampaging students went ahead to destroy properties belonging to the school.
Botech closed down, students given hours to vacate school
Their demonstration happened at the same time when students of the Bolgatanga Technical Institute were arrested by the BNI for engaging in examination malpractices.
A student by name Isaac Apambilla, who is said to be a student leader is quoted as having said “It is about our sporting activities. Since our first year till now, no sporting activities for us. Most schools have been going for inter-schools and inter-houses. But ever since we came here, we have never participated in any of them. No inter-houses, neither talking of inter-schools,” he said.

Master Apambilla added that the issues with their food is another problem. “We don’t get proper food. There is no quality, there is no quantity. Even if there is no quantity, there should be at least quantity so that we can eat and be satisfied.”
The students also indicated that the school authorities has been harsh with them in their invigilation of the ongoing West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination.
A team of police and military personnel have however been dispatched to the school to restore calm.
