We will be discussing about Aidan Byrne, the Pensioner who used his late brother’s name to make huge claims.

Who is Aidan Byrne?

He is a 75 year old pensioner . He is from the republic of Ireland.

He is a native of Wexford, who is said to have lived in England for a number of years.

He had a brother who died back in 1972.

Aidan returned to his native Ireland in the year 2000.

It was then that he started he returned to Ireland that he began using his dead brother’s identity car to claim various benefits.

Details from the court revealed that he made claims totaling €83,157 between June of 2015 to August of 2021.

This amount was in pension and fuel allowances which he claimed on behalf of his deceased brother.

The 75 year old also applied for a medical card from HSE and claimed €10,858 still in his dead brother’s name.

The medical claims was for treatment including that of optical and that of doctor visits and was between June 2012 to December,2021.

How was Aidan Byrnes plans uncovered?

His troubles began when he applied for a passport in his late brothers name again. He did this by using his brother’ birth certificate and his own picture on the passport.

Unknown to him, he had applied for a passport in his own name in 2019. It was at this point that the passport office officers noticed the fraud as he had same picture under two passport names.

The issue of Aidan was forwarded to  Department of Social Protection.

The information of the fraud was also relayed to Gardai who then launched an investigation.

He is said to have  pleaded guilty to a range of charges including “theft from both the Department of Social Protection and the HSE, forgery and using a false instrument”.

A lawyer for the state by name David Keane said a number of other charges may be brought up against him.

Who is Aida Byrne’s brother?

His brother’ name  is Anthony Byrne. He is said to have died in 1972 as indicated earlier.Aidan Byrne’s brother is reported to have died tragically through a drowning incident in England.
