Education Minister cries out: Faceless people in NPP want to destroy me

Education Minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has noted that people who are seeking his downfall are members of his own political party, the NPP.

He says these faceless people are working tirelessly to ensure that he fails; a situation he sees as worrying.

“The Minister is hot, the Minister is in a scandal by people who seek my downfall for their own parochial interest within my own party. I did not heed to the call of the President to come to Ghana to talk about 1.2 million. My base pay was $300,000 a year. I left it to come to Ghana to take 1.2 million. 1.2 million is here at the Ministry of Education.

These faceless individuals should bow their heads down in shame because Dr Adutwum will not do anything against the rules of the World Bank, I will not bring shame to Ghana. I believe our great days are ahead of us. People are engaged in trash and burn politics so that they repeat it so many times so people believe in it but it’s not going to work.”

He continued ” my friends from the media about 90% of you I know you by face and I have been to your studios and I’ve made my self accessible so if you get anything like that won’t you talk to me? I appreciate the fact that you publish rejoinder but sometimes it’s too late for my reputation.

Background

On May 25 this year, there were reports alleging that the minister had been in a phantom training scheme for teachers worth $1.2 million, funded by the World Bank.

According to the report, correspondence from the Director-General of the GES, Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, indicated that he was unaware of the training of over 40,000 teachers on the digital literacy platform.

It further alleged that the World Bank, as part of its investigations to establish that the training of the teachers took place, as claimed by the ministry, officially wrote to the Director-General of the GES to confirm the said training.

The report cited a letter signed by Prof. Opoku-Amankwa saying he was “unaware that any such training has taken place”.
