Cape Coast-Twifi Praso linking bridge caved in [video]

A bridge linking Cape Coast -Twifo Praso in the Central Region has collapsed.

The popular bridge which serves commuters from Cape Coast to Jukwa  and Dunkwa.

Video and pictures of the incident which is available on social media shows that the bridge has caved-in rendering the road inaccessible.

A report by JowNews central region correspondent Richard Kwadwo Nyarko said the incident happened after the Surowi river overflowed its banks.

It has been reported that tourist who were headed to the Kankum park had to return as it is the only way to the popular tourist site.

Destruction caused by the incident

The incident has led to a  house closed to bridge getting flooded. The house is said to belong to the CEO of the Exim Bank and vehicles which were parked on the compound of the house are said to have been carried away by the floor water.

The effects of the damage went beyond the catchment area of the bridge, as residents of Ankaful were also affected.

The road linking the regional capital Cape Coast to Ankaful has also been affected rendering motorist around that area also stranded.

There have not been reports of causalities following the incident.

Last year a similar incident happened in the Upper East region when the road linking Bolga and Bawku was washed away.It took weeks for the road to be fixed and open to traffic again.

Response from the right authorities

It has been reported that officials of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and the Ghana Highways Authority are at the scene assessing the situation to find a temporary solution to the problem
