Bolgatanga Technical Institute has been closed down indefinitely. This follows hours of student rioting. The situation was so serious that no car could pass on the Bolgatanga-Navrongo road, with most motorists making U-turns.
Some teachers were taken hostage in the school’s library, while others had to run for their lives.
Other teachers tell horrifying stories of how they were sprayed with fire extinguishers, among others.
The students were targeting their Assistant Headmistress academic and one other teacher. The said Madam Emelia, the Assistant Headmistress academic, was nowhere to be found. The students vandalized the school and teachers’ properties.
Madam Emelia’s car is said to be damaged when the students visited her quarters to look for her. Other personal belongings of the Assistant Headmistress academic were vandalized. The police who were called in had to use tear gas to foil the rampaging students.
The school has since been closed down and students have been given hours to vacate the school premise.
It is however surprising that the car of the Principal of the school was not touch. It has been alleged that some of the students were picked by the BNI over an unknown crime and the Principal had gone to bail them when the real erupted. Final year students have to be commuting to school to continue their final exams which is still in progress.
