The Ashanti Gold and the Inter Allies football clubs in the Ghana league are to suffer a demotion from the premier league to division two. This is according to a match fix scandal during the 2020/21 league season where Ashanti Gold scored against Inter Allies in a 7-0 gold thriller. The pair have been relegated from the Premier League to the second division.
The Ashgold and Inter Allies demotion does not surprise many at all. This they think will bring sanity to the game.
This brings to mind a similar incident where Abedi Peles NANIA FC was also demoted for a 31-0 against Okwawu United. Abedi’s team have still not recovered from that shock and have still not been able to come to the Premiership after the incident.
The country’s football governing body set up a committee to look into the match day 34 game, which was played in Obuasi between Ashgold and Inter Allies FC.
The Chairman of the Ashanti Gold football club, Dr. Kweku Frimpong, and his son, Emmanuel Frimpong, have been banned for ten years and eight years, respectively.
They are to also pay GHS5000.00 and GHS10,000.00 for their involvement in the incident.
