Who was AB Crentsil?
A. B Crentsil Who was born as Alfred Benjamin in 1943 was a Ghanaian musician. The musician who is popular with the name AB Crentsil was one of the biggest names when it comes to the contemporary Ghanaian music. He was among the top three Ghanaian Vocalist and has won many Ghanaian Music awards.
AB Crentsil was a recipient of the Fontomfrom Evergreen Award. It was a special honour which was bestowed on the musician after a “15-20” years of creating popular tracks to entertain Ghana and beyond.
Background of AB Crentsil
AB Crentsil born as Alfred Benjamin Jr in Prestea in the then Gold Coast. His father name was Alfred Benjamin Crentsil Sr and his mother was Esi Yaaba. The veteran Musician was first called AB Junior and when his father died, he took over the name without the junior attached to it.
AB Crentsil attended the Takoradi Methodist Primary and the Rev. Cleveland Middle schools respectively.
How AB Crentsil got into music.
He had stints with music when he was first introduced to guitar by one Mr. Thedoh while he was still in the Middle school. After several hours and months of practice, Crentsil started singing along while playing his guitar.

AB Crentsil used to work as an electrical apprentice under his father. This was in the Takoradi branch of the Ghana railways company where his father was a Superintendent of the technical branch.
He continue to work as an electrician and singing at the same time. He joined the Strollers Band which was owned by Kwesi Donkor. AB Crentsil played along with a notable name like El Dorados. The Sweet Talks group later were led by Crentsil and Smart Nkansah and their base was at the “Talk of the Town Hotel” in Tema and Crentsil was their lead singer.

AB Crentsil got married to a beautiful woman by name Elizabeth. The late singer shared eight children with his wife.
AB Ctrentsil cause of death.
The musician who opened a 16-track recording studio in 1990 died on 13th July,2022. The cause of death of the veteran musician is unknown.
The news of the death of the musician was announced on Facebook by sound engineer, Fred Kyei Mensah on Wednesday. Fred stated that the Musician was unwell for some time, but the kind of sickness Crentsil was suffering from was not disclosed.
